Valheim 1.0 lands on September 9. The Deep North goes into the game, and PS5 and Switch 2 players join PC and Xbox with full crossplay for the first time. Every Valheim server we run can move to the new build the morning it reaches Steam.
Every one of them already includes ValheimOne, the live map and browser console we built and open sourced.
What ships in Valheim 1.0
The Deep North is the last biome, the frozen region at the top of every world. It has been a blank space on the map since 2021. Iron Gate's final word from the devs on August 20 said it plainly: fix the last bugs, then release.
Valheim 1.0 also brings the console launches. Iron Gate's release date announcement puts the PS5 and Switch 2 versions on the same day, with crossplay across every platform. One world will hold Steam, Xbox, PlayStation and Switch players at the same time.
One thing to know before you sail north. As with every biome update before it, new terrain only generates in parts of the map nobody has explored yet. A world your group has fully charted will not grow a Deep North, and Iron Gate's 1.0 FAQ recommends starting over, so a finished world means a fresh seed if you want the new content.
Crossplay and console players
Crossplay is a single toggle on our servers. Switch it on in the panel and restart.
Console players then find the server by name in the in-game Join Game list and enter the password. Nobody on a console needs your IP address.
The Valheim crossplay server guide covers the setting. It also covers the naming advice that makes your server easy to find in that list.
There is a catch most people only discover after switching crossplay on. A crossplay server stops answering the standard query that server browsers and monitoring tools use to see it. ValheimOne carries its own query responder, so a crossplay server with the mod stays visible and keeps reporting players.
What 1.0 does to mods
Iron Gate's line on mods has not changed for Valheim 1.0. Their official FAQ still reads "We don't have official support for mods." The 1.0 FAQ adds that they cannot guarantee any mod will work on release day.
This update is not getting a public test build. Iron Gate answered that question in the 1.0 FAQ with a plain no. Every server mod will meet 1.0 for the first time on September 9, on live servers.
That is the usual shape of a Valheim patch day. The game updates, mod loaders and plugins break, and modded servers sit on the old version until each author catches up, which can take days or weeks. If you run BepInEx mods of your own, check each one before you restart into Valheim 1.0.
ValheimOne gets tested against every new game build the morning it reaches Steam, before customer servers pick it up. We do not let a version onto your server until it passes. Valheim 1.0 goes through the same check on September 9.
ValheimOne, included with every Valheim server
ValheimOne is a server-side mod we built for Valheim and released under an MIT license. It is included with every Valheim server here at no cost: press Browse next to Mod, pick ValheimOne, then Save Settings and Restart Game Server, and it installs itself. It runs entirely on the server, so your players stay on a completely vanilla game and install nothing.
Open the server in your panel and the ValheimOne tile opens your actual world, drawn from your seed. Players, ships, carts and portals move across it as it happens.
Fog of war can mirror exactly what your group has charted. A heatmap shows where everyone has been over the last day or week.
The ValheimOne tile sits in the Tools row of the control panel we rebuilt in August, next to Server Config and the file manager.
Click any dungeon entrance and you get a top-down schematic of its generated interior, with whoever is inside drawn in the right room. The rest of the toolset:
- A codex of roughly 1,084 items. Weight, stack size, full recipes, what drops each item and what it builds, searchable from the same screen.
- A browser admin console. The live server log, a command box with autocomplete, kick, ban, world save and a graceful shutdown that warns players first.
- Discord alerts. Joins, leaves, deaths with the biome, raids, world saves and new days, sent to a webhook you choose.
- Twenty-six opt-in server rules. Carry weight, stamina, drops, portals, taming, raids and more. Everything is off until you turn it on.
Three views control who sees what. Admin sees everything. Shared gives your group the live map with no admin actions, and Public is a read-only, fog-covered link you can post in your Discord.
The source is on GitHub and the mod is on Nexus Mods, so anyone can read it or run it. It is the same kind of project as the Stardew Valley server we built in August. That game shipped with no dedicated server at all.
If ValheimOne is useful to you, star it on GitHub so other Valheim admins can find it.
What this means for your server
If you already run Valheim with us, your world carries over. With Server Update (Automatic) set to Enable in your panel, your server moves to 1.0 on its next restart after the build reaches Steam. If it is set to Disable, press Update & Restart in the panel on September 9.
ValheimOne is one dropdown away if you have not switched it on yet. Questions about the update go to the Valheim board on our forum.
We have hosted Valheim since the day it entered early access, February 2, 2021. September 9 will be the first day a PlayStation or Switch player can join a world here.
If you want a 24/7 world ready for the Deep North, our Valheim dedicated servers start at $14.95 a month for 10 slots. You can move an existing local world onto a server without losing anything. The Valheim join guide is the page to hand your players.
