Dimraeth Dedicated Servers Are Live at Survival Servers

Dimraeth servers are now available at Survival Servers. Dimraeth launched into Early Access on Steam today, September 15, and it ships with no dedicated server of its own. Every server we sell runs Waygate, our free open-source server software, so the world stays up around the clock and your friends join with one click from the free Waygate app.

What Dimraeth is

Dimraeth is a pixel-art fantasy action RPG from Mudtek, a one-person studio. The developer describes it as deliberate Souls-lite combat and deep character progression combined with crafting and base building. You pick a race and a class, explore an open world, clear dungeons, build a base and level a character that carries between worlds.

It is $21.99 on Steam, 10% off during launch week, and it supports co-op for up to 8 players. The Early Access page says the game will update often, which matters for servers and we come back to it below.

How Dimraeth multiplayer normally works

Co-op in Dimraeth is hosted from one player's game. The host opens their world, friends join through Steam, and the world exists only while the host has the game open. Close the game and everyone is out. Progress on the world sits on the host's PC, so the group plays on that person's schedule.

There is no dedicated server download, no server browser and no way to join by address in the game itself. That is the gap Waygate fills.

What Waygate is

Waygate is two open-source pieces. WaygateServer runs the game as a real server: no monitor, no desktop session and no Steam login on the server, saving the world on a schedule and reloading the same world on every start. The Waygate app runs on each player's Windows PC and connects their own copy of Dimraeth to that server.

Characters stay with the player. The app lists the heroes from your own Dimraeth saves and you choose which one to bring to a server, the same way you would pick a character for a friend's world. The world, its buildings and its progress live on the server.

Both halves are on GitHub: Waygate for the app and WaygateServer for the server package. Anyone can run it on their own Windows machine. We host it for people who would rather not.

What players need

Joining takes three things: Dimraeth on Steam (every player uses their own copy), the free Waygate app, and the server address. The server owner clicks Open in Waygate in the control panel and the server lands in their app with the address and password already filled in. Friends type the address in by hand or open a link the owner sends them.

What our servers include

Early Access and updates

Dimraeth is an Early Access game and the developer has said updates will be frequent. The server and every player have to be on the same game version to play together. When Steam updates the game, update the server from the control panel and start it again. The world save is not touched by an update.

Why we built this

Dimraeth is the fourth game we have taken from host-from-your-own-game co-op to a real hosted server this year, after Delverium, Grounded 2 and Subnautica 2. The pattern is the same each time: the game has no server of its own, so we build one that runs without a player attached, publish it as open source, and keep it current as the game updates.
