  1. Server owners, the big news for all of us the past week of course has been Epic's free offering of Conan.
In case you hadn't seen yet, they announced at only 9:18am (CST) that they had decided to pull the title from their offering.

I'm sure like myself, at least a few of you have also wiped servers in prep for the free offering, as with even the Steam free weekends, we tend to get large influxes of players, and those downloads are rendered invalid after those weekends are over.
So, with the game being potentially free for life for those that picked it up on Epic, I know I for one was scrambling to just get a wipe done, and get everyone hyped up, get extra moderators and admins ready, etc, etc.

So, how has Epic pulling their offering affected any of you?

  2. Be sure to check the last update date of the game, and cross check it with the last update date for the mod. More than likely, as Overlord mentioned, it's simply an "out of date" issue. If you have further issues with getting your server running, put in a support ticket and someone will help get things sorted for you.

  3. The ARK version number is updated in the control panel manually by staff after an update. However, the updates are always done automatically by the system. So updating your server should always work (barring unforeseen circumstances.) However, the version number may not always display correctly immediately after a patch.

So after a patch, just run the updater and trust that it will always (most of the time) work just fine. If it doesn't, you can submit a support ticket here for further assistance.

  4. This can be found pretty frequently in games, they do line up though. That is to say that when the programming for the "smithy" looks for it's engram, it'll see "anvilbench", Typically it just happens when they're not quite sure what verbage they want to use in the end, like if they want to call it a "Blacksmith's Bench", a "Smithy" or a "Workbench" or even a "Work Bench", so they just use whatever pops into their head first like anyone else may lol. Then the coding lets them still just point it where they need to, creating confusion for modders and admins, even though it works just fine.

So, bottom line, we're stuck dealing with some sometimes annoying and confusing connections, but as long as it works, we just have to take it with a grain of salt.

  5. So, there have been a number of DNL patches lately, and I'm just curious what everyone thinks of all of the changes and updates? How are the dreaded Panther spawns treating you? Any issues with shard harvesting these days? Let us know what you think and get the conversation kicked back up! :)

  6. I'm really sorry to hear it Wilhelm, I'm currently testing out that change myself, so we'll see here in about a week if everything goes poof yet again. =\

I'm very sorry the method I first suggested didn't work properly for folks. This is still a very new game and everyone is having to learn all of its differences from ARK, so many of the ARK fixes simply don't work for DNL. Trial and error, hopefully we can get more trials than errors though!

Thank you all so much for all of the feedback though, as this is a very major issue for many people with servers that have players that can't play every day.

This community feedback is what we all need to help each other keep our players interested and having fun, so keep it coming in all of the proper channels! :)

  7. The version ID in the Control panel has to be updated manually on our end. So long as you've run the update, it's automatically done via steam.

It may still display that it's on the prior version, but again, that's just cause we haven't noticed the update yet in order to add the version ID to the updater.

The updater will still work though. So you're good. =)

  8. A wise man once said, there are no stupid questions. Only questions left unasked. That was me, just now. ;)

But in all seriousness. Never chide yourself for a question, or for overlooking something that ended up being right in front of you, it happens to every single one of us at some point or another, and there's simply no reason to be upset over human nature. :)

  9. THE INTRICACIES OF CLUSTER USAGE

Ryan's awesome post points out a lot of the setup and detail for cluster usage, but this guide should be considered more of a "For the Player" type post for information on the specifics for your characters.

I have been both meaning to write this up, and putting it off cause I knew it would take a while hah. So here yall go!

    1) You can either have one character that you transfer freely between the two clusters via an Obelisk or a Supply Drop.

    or

    2) You can have a unique character on each server.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

    What this means to you:

    1) When transferring a single character between clusters, you may take that character and any items they are carrying with them to the other cluster.

    2) You can Upload Dinos and Items to the ARK from one cluster, at any Obelisk or Supply Drop, then transfer your character and any carried items to the other cluster, This spawns you at a "New Character" spawn point the first time. If you then place a bedroll / bed / etc, you may spawn at that respawn point on future transfers to this cluster.

    3) You may then download any uploaded Dinos or Items that were added to the ARK.within 24 hours, by visiting a Supply Drop or Obelisk and using the appropriate tab.

    4) For transferring Water Dinos, you will need to use an underwater Supply Drop to both Upload and Download to and from the ARK.

    5) If you have transferred from say, The Island map, to The Center map, and then log out. You will no longer have a character on The Island map. This means that if you create a new character on The Island map, and would like to transfer your character back from The Center map to The Island map, it would then overwrite the newly created character on that map.

So to clarify, this ensures that one character that may transfer, or one character on each choice.

    6) Whichever character uploads dinos or items, MUST be the character that downloads them. You can NOT upload with one character, then download with your other character on the other map. The items are not linked to your steam account, they are linked specifically to the character that uploaded them.

    7) Dinos and items that are specific to a single map, ie: Jerboas on the Scorched Earth or Ragnarok maps, MAY be transferred to a map that does not otherwise have those dinos. (There may be specific exceptions to this, but not many if so.) This also applies to modded items, but both servers in the cluster MUST have that mod installed. Such that you can build a bunch of foundations and walls using the S+ mod on your primary server, in order to prepare for a move to the secondary server.

    8) Dinos uploaded to the ARK, will delete ALL items in their inventory when uploaded. This includes their Food and Saddles! However, they do NOT need to eat while uploaded. All other aspects of that dino are preserved. ie: Name, levels, stat distribution, unspent levels, mutations, etc.

If I have forgotten anything, please add it in.

However, I have made this post about the details of cluster usage, not for tips on how to use it. Of those, there are plenty.

But feel free to add those below if you like.

Well, I think this covers about as much as I can think of offhand, I hope this helps.
I may make a pinned post with this info in it as well, as it could be very helpful to others looking for this info in once place.

If I have forgotten anything, please let me know.

  11. We have had a few people complaining about wyvern eggs laid in the wild disappearing from inventory. Basically, you go to pick it up, it says the item was added to inventory, but it's just never there once you get the heck out of dodge long enough to actually check your inventory.

So yeah, this does seem to be an ARK issue, rather than a server issue. And it's certainly a big enough one to warrant a hotfix, so keep your eyes open for the patch notes!

Here's to the next 5 and onwards from there.

  13. A commonly noticed issue is setting the port to the game port rather than the RCON port listed. So make sure you're using the RCON port.

Also, sometimes copy/pasting your password from the control panel can cause issues, so try typing it out directly instead.

Also, always ensure you are using the most up to date version of the ARKON tool, by opening the program with the updater rather than the executable.

It may error, but it still works more often that way than not.
