How to Set Up a Hytale Dedicated Server

Running a Hytale multiplayer server on your own requires several components.
Expected System Requirements
- Linux (Ubuntu/Debian recommended) or Windows
- Java 25 runtime (OpenJDK or Oracle JDK)
- 3-4 GB RAM minimum for small servers (up to 16 players)
- 5-8 GB RAM for larger public servers (20-40+ players)
- ~500 MB disk for fresh install, 20-30 GB for long-lived worlds
- Port forwarding capability on your router
Expected Required Components
- Java 25 - Hytale servers will run on Java 25 (the server is pure Java)
- Server JAR - Hytale dedicated server files (available when early access launches)
- Configuration File - Server properties file (likely YAML or properties format)
- World Directory - Where your procedurally generated world data is stored
Expected Launch Command
- Based on developer statements, the server launch will likely follow this pattern:
java -Xms2048m -Xmx4096m -XX:+UseG1GC -jar hytale-server.jar --nogui --world-dir world --port 25565 --config server.properties
-Xmsand-Xmxcontrol minimum and maximum RAM allocation-XX:+UseG1GCenables the G1 garbage collector for better performance- Port 25565 is the expected default (same as Minecraft)
