Server lag when building

I am having an issue on my server with lag while building. There is a huge delay between when a wall/floor/roof etc. places. If I click while the wall is blue it takes several seconds to finally place, sometimes not placing at all. If I click several times, it will still take several seconds but then show "target socket is occupied", then place. I am getting no errors in the console log.
