Cannot get server config to work.

Hello guys,

After a while I have got another server form here, this is my third one now, and I want to set a custom description. In the past I have just simply added a server.cfg file to my server cfg folder and added the description. This time however it does not work.

I cannot put the description in the custom commands because it exceeds the char limit by a mile. Not only that I also want to add more custom parameters such as WebRcon, spawn.min/max_density and spawn/min/man_rate.

In the custom commands field, some of the parameters do not seem to work well such as the spawn rate/density. Currently, in order to set these I have to type them into the command console every time I start the server. Annoyingly, I always forget this.

Anyone have any ideas on how to setup the config now? It must have changed recently because it no longer works when I add parameters.

I am grateful for the help in advance.

Many thanks guys!

honestly, you would have better luck finding or getting an answer from another forum completely unrelated to survival servers. Notice on the topics a post has like 44 views, but then maybe one to no replies...That is because folks have very similar or the same issues and are curious if an Admin actually answered the question because it would be just that simple to negate hundreds of newly created and then backlogged support tickets. By just answering one simple question. Instead, the post is replied by one Admin with the same face who directs you to the support ticket button...Because well, your issue is account based my friend...and no one else could possibly have the same issue...

On a side note OP, were you ever assisted in any way? No way to say yes by the looks of post date and absence of replies...

I did not find assistance on here, or anywhere in fact, as fortunately the issue I was having resolved itself after a couple of reboots and a bit of tinkering. I guess the point of the forum is for something other than support as that is what the ticket system is for. I find the ticket system outstanding for support, should probably just stick to the forums for giving tips and advice rather than requesting help.

The Rust sub-forum is less popular for other users to be coming on here to help quickly. I do read every post but I don't reply to every one (even in the ARK forum) because I may not know every single answer.

The community forum is for open discussion and do-it-yourselfers that want to figure out a solution by searching for answers to their questions. Our support ticket system is for everything else. Lots of the content that comes through here gets deleted because people do not understand how to phrase a question that benefits the entire community or they expect individual account support. That's not how forums work.

We are happy to help or point people in the right direction but it has to be done in an organized matter with proper expectations.

Support tickets: account specific, general questions that don't have community discussion purpose (server is stuck on loading, etc), billing

Forum: configuration questions, industry announcements, game changes, tutorials, etc

I see you are focusing mostly on the replies were I redirect customers with account specific questions but if you look at my post history you will see that is not the majority of my posts.

-------- and back on topic ----

I think op is referring to the custom launch params character limit. You should edit your server configuration via FTP instead. The custom launch params input box is really intended for launch parameters that cannot be added in the config files.

Regarding commands that are not working, perhaps there was a character that was blocking the command from working. Posting the exact custom launch params in the future would be better for the community to evaluate the commands to see if they are valid.

Perhaps I was not so clear with my explanation. The problem I was having was any configuration parameters other than server.description such as spawn.min_density, spawn.max_density, spawn.min_rate, spawn.max_rate rcon.web, server.stability, server.worldsize and server.seed would not execute when placed inside the server.cfg file. In fact, nothing did at all.

This meant that I was unable to change the configuration of the server to my liking. However, this is Rust's fault mostly so I came to a compromise by only placing important information first in the launch parameters field, using server.cfg file to add a description and using an Oxide plugin to configure the rest of the settings that were not required to be set a startup. This setup works for me so it is what I am using.

I was also asking specifically how the server.cfg file is to be constructed on your servers for multiple parameters because how it was setup when I was hosting a test server on one of my computers appears to differ from the servers here.
