How to keep permanent .ini changes on server

Hey,

So I used the excellent FTP guide on the pinned topics (If your new to renting a server, it's a great guide and helps you manage your server better than just the control panel) and modified my game.ini file to reduce the Rainbow Zoo mod Dino's spawn rates and also remove a engram from the list to avoid it being used on the server.

I follow the guide, save the file and I go back and check and it shows my changes. When I go back to the game.ini file after an update it reverts back to the default meaning all my spawn changes for the Rainbow Mod Dino's no longer apply and I have to kill all wild dino's.

Could someone let me know how I make changes to the game.ini file that are permanent and persistent through updates so the spawn rates and hidden engrams stay that way?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Is there a particular reason you are not using the control panel for modifying the settings? I would imagine with each new ark update they are (Ark) including that file, because they are adding new options for us to edit and control. Using the admin panel would allow the server to override those settings with each new update.

The control panel does not allow me to change spawn rate's of modded Dino's (Rainbow Zoo Mod) and as they are generally better than vanilla, I wanted to make them rare but currently they spawn too often.

Hello Manga,

Maybe I can shed some more light on this issue for you and others that may run into the same problem.

Any changes that you are doing via the FTP you should only make on the FTP and nothing else.

What I mean by that is, First make sure your server is stopped when you are going to update or make changes via the FTP.

Update whatever you wish to do in the INI files, Save them, Finish editing and upload it. When you go to start the server back up, Make sure you are not going into the Yellow Modify server config button. Because if you go in there and make further changes, and hit save and restart server button in that, It will then take away everything you just did and put the INI file to whatever settings options you have only on that Modify section.

So the best way is to change what you want first on the modifiy section, then never touch it again after that. Only do everything via the FTP from that point on. Once you have saved FTP changes, Just hit the start button in the top right of the control panel and your changes will still be there.

If you need to update Mods etc always remember to remove the Folder and .mod file before updating the mod, as this is the most effective way to ensure no corruption.

You may use the Blue Update settings and restart button as well. Just do not use the Modify config settings anymore. Hope this helps you!
