TC Admin Issues & Server Downtime

I have had numerous problems over an extended period related to my server and having loot stop spawning, zombies not spawning, server lag issues and rcon connectivity. Some of these issues I have assumed arise from the need to recycle my server and run the cleanup script that was provided as part of the DayZ Tools package. When I attempt to do this, which is typically daily, there has been a high chance that the TC Admin will stop responding and no longer provide me the ability to start the server back up. I have submitted numerous tickets each occurrence of this issue and each time it has taken well over 24 hours to gain control back and rarely a response is submitted to answer the ticket as whether it was resolved or not. I am gaining frustration over the issue and after a couple weeks of gaining regular players on my server during which I was not experiencing any of these issues, I now find that I have lost a number of those players with their equal frustration. Given that this is a Friday and I would hope for a solid weekend of uptime to regain these lost players, I find myself without a server and with little patience left. I am not one to publicly air my issues with a provider, but as my tickets have been my primary private contact with those responsible for the service and this yields next to no feedback, I must resort to airing my frustration for all to see in hopes of resolution.

 

Given the recurrence of the same issue related to TC Admin and it's inability to restart a server after shut down, I would hope that a common theme would be apparent and that some effort is being made in relation to correcting the problem. Also, the SQL server seems to be the root of some of the lag during high traffic parts of the day and all I have heard of this is that there are plans to improve the hard drives. I don't know what time tables apply to fixes for either of these problems, but I would hope that there would be feedback so we don't need to sit here guessing. Granted, I have appreciated the freedoms afforded the package offering here and the ability to run the server how I choose has given me lots of freedom as an administrator and I appreciate that, but I cannot practice that freedom if I am not guaranteed uptime. "I was planning to perform map and script customization further than the little that I have done thus far and I am afraid that if I attempt it the server may not return for me to test let alone have my players enter.

 

Please, for the sake of my and I am sure other admins whose posts on this forum at times seem equally frustrated, improve your response time, user feedback and upgrade plans and management.

I would like to say that I appreciate your thought out response to your issues. It is crucial that the tech team receives this type of feedback from our customers so they can improve overall experience.

 

I am not a paid member of survival servers or part of their tech team but I chose this role to assist where I can. I can only guess that the clean up script you refer to is the run task script in the DayZ tools section. I would like to point out I never run that and don't find myself having any issues. I actually had more issues the time I manually used it. Right now my server is running smooth and has been for weeks. I have battle eye extended controls installed, chernarus (standard dayz), and patch 102591 installed. I know 102591 to be stable and works just fine. I have custom buildings, loadouts, auto refuel, 24 hour daylight, and more functioning properly. I understand where you are coming from as the beginning wasn't smooth either. I was making errors and doing small stuff that would stop the server from functioning properly.

 

I would suggest not running that tool and set up battle eye extended controls. The scheduler.xml is how to set up restarts and we have an excellent FAQ in that section of the forums.

 

I hope we can get this resolved for you right away.

I did get a response to my ticket and they team seemed to have acknowledged that the issue was in the TC Admin. I logged in to find the server up for a short period then went down again. I was able to start the server back up this time, but this morning I tried using the TC Admin again and it reported error and will not start my server, and this was without using the script in the DayZ tools section, just an atypical TC Admin restart.

 

I know you mentioned your setup and how you have ran your server Oscar, but you didn't mention your restart schedule. I know you have to have one since destroyed vehicles need to be cleaned and respawned and I have found that during extended periods of uptime, players complain about the lack of zombie or loot spawning. I know it is also healthy to restart to replenish crash site loot. I need a reliable method to restart my server for maintenance purposes both automatically and manually. It seems every second or third time I attempt a restart using TC Admin, I end up with 2 days of downtime from it not starting up and the EXTREMELY SLOW response from the tech team regardless my tickets and the priority I set to them.

It is four hour restarts set up for central standard time. NOON, 4p, 8p, Midnight, 4a, 8a. Works excellent. I hope this helps.
