so the server my friend and i have been playing on hasn't updated so we decided to buy our own server to play on. neither of us have ever rented a server before so this was new to both of us, we did some research on the steam forums and whittled our choices down to survival servers & game servers, i had a couple of questions for survival servers, mainly about having a server available in the usa, i got a reply for the first question in about 15 minutes, and the second question was answered in about an hour & 1/2. in fact, i had decided to go ahead and rent a server from game servers since they claimed to have a server available in california (even though we're in florida) and i went back to my email to get the login info to start up my game server host but i noticed i had already recieved my reply from survival servers. I was so impressed i decided to go ahead and rent the survival server instead since i noticed game servers had a 5 day refund policy, & the survival server was a little closer (dallas tx instead of california). but once i got logged in, and went to the control pannel, the buttons for start/stop/restart are unselectable, in server details it says " Server DetailsUnknown Last Start: - The Island ARK Version ??? IP: 167.114.209.48:17815 " I have added the server password and named the server and clicked restart server, i've also told it to update once and restarted it a second time, i've waited the recomended 10 minutes then attempted to access the server through steam by two methods, firstly by loading all the public servers reported in the internet tab through the steam browser and sorting them alphabetically (since there's over 4k of them) then looking for the name i used for my server, it doesn't appear in that list, I also go to the favorites tab (also in the steam browser) & i actually added the 167.114.209.48:17815 AND the 17816 (although initially i only had the 17816, but i figured i'd put both in and whichever is the right one it should show up) but in both instances all i get is < not responding >. I also tried switching the server to new york and saving changes & reseting server, & that gave a different port, so i put the new port in and the new port +1. (although interestingly the ip address didn't change, i thought the ip addresses were partially identifiable by location (i think the first 2 sets of numbers?) so how could they have the same exact ip address in 2 different city's? in anycase, we can't log into the server, i've submitted the ticket, and haven't yet recieved a reply, i also sent a pm to the co-founder that replied to my earlier questions, but it says he's offline at the moment, i'm hoping this can be up and running by tomorrow *fingers crossed* any tips advice appreciated. (do i have to do something with the ftp? I was hoping to avoid having to do something outside of an easy to use UI. hence the reasion i'm renting the server instead of researching all that to just set it up on one of my other computers.)
