  1. Mermaids are the worst. Terrible game design. If you are inside your ship's hold and they start singing, you get pinned against to the wall, basically forever. I have to use the command code to destroyall mermaids every time this happens. It's obnoxious. I want to keep them from spawning altogether, but the Creature Spawn Config section of the control panel doesn't seem to be working. I am wondering if there is a line I can put in the .ini to accomplish this. BTW, I'm playing of Blackwood, if it matters.
  2. I have been thinking for a while that eventually someone would figure out how to play on the full map with only a few servers running. That link that Black shared had a video of a guy who made a tool to do just that. I'll post it here for those who haven't seen it: If there was a tool like this built in to Survival Servers where I could rent 5 servers and have it automatically switch and/or be able to quickly and easily turn servers on and off, depending on where I'm headed that day, I would be all over that like white on rice.
  3. Just a thought I had. Not sure if it is possible, or will be possible in the future, but for a solo player or a small group, this would be really cool. What if you could play on a big map, 4x4 or larger, but only have the square you are in, and maybe the next squares over on all sides (for a total of 5) were running at any given time. When you move to a new square, it spins up the new adjacent servers and shuts down the old ones you just left, if that makes sense. That way you could have that epic world scale without paying hundreds of dollars a month for a ton of servers. Maybe someone smarter than me could figure that out.
  4. 1) Nope. One server means one grid. A one grid Atlas map is pretty useless, as there is nowhere to sail to, as that's kind of the point of the game. I would hope that in the future they figure it out so if you have a very small number of slots, like 10, they will have pricing where multiple servers can run on the same hardware, lowering the cost. But as of now, You need at least a 2 x 2 to have any fun, and that's $50/month 2) I asked this same question. Haven't gotten an answer. But as admin, you can use cheats to give yourself XP and all the items you had before. 3) As mentioned above, $50/month is pretty steep, especially for a solo player. If you can split it between a few friends, then it's much more manageable. From my experience, I think a 3 x 3 is the minimum to really get the most out of the game, partly because the epic sea voyages are at the heart of the game, and a 2 x 2 map means about a maximum of 30 minute travel time to anywhere in the world. And partly because there are like 6 or 7 biomes, so you can't have all of them on a 2 x 2 map. I'm still trying to figure out how to pay for something like that tho....
  5. This isn't a bug, it's a feature. So to speak. That's how all the official servers are. It's kind of their way of "instancing", because it would be too crowded if there were just one starter island, so there are 4 identical ones in a diamond shape. You can see them all over the official map if you look for them. However for a small private server it is very unnecessary, so I would also like to know if there's a way to get rid of them. One problem I can think of off the top of my head, is there's an NPC called a Ferryman that you can talk to to fast travel between the 4 islands. If there is only one, he might freak out and cause some bugs or crashes. I hear he has a short temper
  6. This may not be what you're asking, but in order to use admin console commands like cheats, etc. you hit the ~ key, and type in "enablecheats password", replacing password with your admin password from your SS control panel. I haven't tested it much, but I used a cheat from Ark off the top of my head to change the time of day, and it worked.
  7. Instead of creating my own map from scratch, I figure I could just edit the default one from SS. However when I try and open it, I get an error: Failed to parse project json, Message: Cannot deserialize the currentJSON array (e.g. (1,2,3)) into type 'system.Collections.Generic.Dictionary'2[system,String,System,String)' because the type requires a JSON object (e.g. r name·:·valueL}) to deserialize correctly, To fix this error either change the JSON to a JSON object (e.g. }"name":"value"}) or change the deserialized type to an array or a type that implements a collection interface (e.g. |Collection, |List) like List<T> that can be deserialized from a JSON array, JsonArrayAttribute can also be added to the type to force it to deserialize from a JSON array. Path 'OverrideShooterGameModeDefaultGamelni', line 18, posit ion 46, This is gibberish to me. Anyone know how to fix this?
  8. What if I have a 2x2 server and I want to upgrade it to a 3x3? Would we keep our characters?
  9. I'm only running 1 at the moment. I will eventually get more, just looking at options.

    3 x 3 Template

I understand there's no 3 x 3 template at the moment. Any idea if/when there might be one? I have the map editor, but there's lots about it that I don't understand or see options for, like power stones, free ports, the ocean floor, etc., and I would feel better if I just had a template.

    2 x 3 Maps

I've heard that maps have to be square (2x2, 3x3, 4x4, etc). I was thinking about a 2 x 3 map to give me just a little more space. Is this an option?
  12. I like launching via the Steam server menu. In steam you go View>Server, then go to the Favorites tab and click on the Add Server button and punch in the IP. Then it will always be in your favorites, and you click connect.
  13. Got my server to stay running. In the X Y grid values I had 1 and 1. It should have been 0 and 0 (I just have one square right now). Hopefully that helps someone.
  14. I've used these guys for years and I know they do a great job. My server is only one grid. I've tried checking all the boxes, updating, restarting, etc. about a dozen times, and it doesn't work. I'll just have to wait for them to get to my support ticket I suppose.
  15. I managed to find my server in Steam via View>Servers. Punched in the IP and it came right up. Says 0/9 instead of 0/10 for some reason, but whatever. However, the second I try and connect to it, the server crashes.
