I'm afraid this is entirely in the control of the game developers. Unfortunately it is not yet a reality.

Correct. For step 2, save/restart, just make sure that this is the green button at the bottom of your control panel.

Switching branches will wipe the server directory so the new files can be added. With that being said, you can restore a backup at the bottom of your control panel after you switch or manually save the save files using FTP first before switching branches.

It was officially released on the stable branch. The Beta branch is no longer needed.
